Hi Peter,

the people at Pfizer are really bad guys. But your story is no surprise to me and to you too, I suppose.
I am German and in a legal battle with Pfizer myself on ZOLOFT. I suspect that Pfizer did conceal and destroyed many documents on the registration of ZOLOFT . They had known for many years that ZOLOFT increases suicidality in some people but denied and concealed it from the public and medical community in Germany and elsewhere. Even after in September 2004 the FDA required all manufacturers of SSRI drugs to warn about the risk of suicide, Pfizer in Germany did noting and waited until August 2005 when the European Community forced them to do so.
Some weeks ago a story emerged in the New Scientist that Glaxo has masked the suicide risk of its antidepressant Paxil since 1989 (THE NEW SCIENTIST: Did GSK trial data mask Paxil suicide risk?, 8 February 2008).

Peter, do you know anything similar regarding ZOLOFT?

My wife has killed herself 3 years ago and I am convinced that this mad act was caused by the drug ZOLOFT she has taken. The package insert did not warn about the risk of suicide and her doctor told her, that ZOLOFT is safe. On the day she died the European Medicine Agency (EMEA) finished a report on the risk of suicide for children and adolescents taking SSRIs. But that report and the warnings in August 2005 were too late for my wife!

I have sued Pfizer for manslaughter and concealment of the deadly risk of its drug ZOLOFT but the German courts are unwilling to indict Pfizer and have rejected my case. I have also informed the German justice department about my case, but they have not replied jet. Not that I expected anything different, but I wanted to test the German legal system before I go to the European Court. It is really a shame for me to admit, that even our legal and political system protects Pfizer in Germany and that they seem to be immune to our laws.

I have contacted a lawyer now, who will sue Pfizer for damages. This will not undo what has happed, it will not bring back my wife but money sees to be the only language that they understand! And bad publicity!
Therefore, I have told a German magazine my story and they have published it (see: http://www.focus.de/gesundheit/news/psycho-medikamente_aid_261754.html).

Peter, what do you know about hidden studies on ZOLOFT? I have read that only 2 of the 5 studies of ZOLOFT that were submitted to the FDA in 1991 were positive and they were the only ones that were published. What do you know about the other 3?
What do you think about the idea, to go to the European Court?
I have talked about it to John Virapen, a Swedish national, who now lives in Germany. He was a manger at Eli Lilly and has recently published a book in German on corruption when PROZAC was introduced in the late 80ies. This book will soon be published in Sweden and he intends to publish it in English also, if he can raise the money and find a publisher. Do you know someone, who can help him? He also suggested me to contact you.

Best regards,

Lothar Schröder.
