John McCain suspends campaign and asks Obama to suspend Friday debate.
Fortunately, Obama rejected McCain's proposal: “This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess,” Obama told reporters in Clearwater, Fla.

This is 3 things: politics, politics, politics. It is a gimmick his handlers adviced him to do so he looks presidential. If he is needed there as senator, then just go don't make the federal case about it. They will resolve it anyway with (in)competent Bush at al. It is really hard to watch the soap opera unfolding in front of the whole world's eyes.
