Story in the Onion.
Each year in the United States almost 4000 babies are paralyzed or die from serious birth defects of the spine. About 10,000 new cases of spinal cord injury occur annually in the United States.
Last year, 1,652 children were paralyzed by polio worldwide. And there are between 100 and 130 million people around the world without money to buy a wheelchair.
Reality is not pretty.
